When pet stains have gone down into the pad or the flooring. It is best to pull the carpet back and check the padding. In some cases it may be necessary to sand and seal the floor underneath to get to the source of what is causing the odor. Areas of padding may also need to be replaced.
How to clean up pet stains: Dab or blot up any excess with a dry paper towel, do not rub or use a circular motion, so as not to damage carpet fibers. Then put a thick layer of baking soda on the stain for 24-48 hours, then vacuum. Never apply water on a pet stain. The baking soda will help to absorb the stains, and keep them from spreading underneath, as well as control odor.
